Taiwanese Indigenous Peoples Speak Up to the World  

CEOs from the world’s nine major indigenous broadcasting networks are joining the World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference (WITBC)  2010 held in Taiwan on March 10-12. At this biennial event, the CEOs, as well as academics, researchers and media workers will gather wisdom to explore ways to preserve and promote indigenous cultures and languages worldwide. Meanwhile, through exchanges of experiences and action-driven discussions, the participants will be able to maximize their influences to speak up for the rights of indigenous peoples. .

“Sharing” is the core value of indigenous peoples. We will share our know-how, technology and skills in broadcasting and learn from one another through panel discussions, film presentations, tours to indigenous cultural sites and a series of others activities scheduled in the three-day event. The development of Taiwan’s indigenous broadcasting system will be introduced and the country’s rich indigenous cultures will be presented.

Four Major Activities – Linking Up the Indigenous World

Broadcasting Conference|March 10 (Wed.) ~ 11 (Thur.) |
At the two-day conference, indigenous broadcasters worldwide will exchange operational and developmental experiences, promote understanding and enforce collaboration to jointly expand the world’s indigenous broadcasting industry.

WITBC Film Festival|March 10 (Tue.) ~ 12 (Fri.) |
Films provided by participating broadcaster will be premiered. Meanwhile, the films can be exchanged among WITBN members to provide inspirations for future productions.

Indigenous Cultural Tour|March 12 (Fri.) |
Beinan Cultural Park|Sapuru Village|Old Champlain Site|Arapanay Landing Point|Katatipul|
A one-day indigenous cultural trip is organized to help participants better understand the history of the Austronesian people in Taiwan. There will be a guided tour at the National Museum of Prehistory where visitors will enjoy fascinating performances by Taiwanese indigenous members and witness a tree-planting ceremony marking the country’s Arbor Day. . This trip can also serve as a root-seeking journey for our friends from other Austronesian cultures. We hope the visitors can feel our earnest efforts to share with them the rich and colorful Taiwanese indigenous world.

Introduction to the world’s nine major indigenous broadcasters are presented to provide information on their history, functions, goals and productions. The chronology of TITV is also provided. As a member of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network (WITBN), TITV is leading the local indigenous peoples to speak to the world
